Fi fi foe fum
(image shamelessly pinched from The Sun)
That most erudite of English publications, The Sun, ran a campaign after the last Olympics celebrating their victory over us in the medal tally by driving billboards around London and Sydney with the respective gold medal counts.
Shall we take a look at the results after the recent Commonwealth Games in India..
Oh look - 74 to 37. So. to the English: Stick that up your bum.
And it's not a fluke, shall we take a look at the over all tally since the inaugural Commonwealth Games?
Oh look - 803 to 612.
You Pommies best be careful come Manchester - oh, and you probably need to bolster your numbers by competing with Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
Beating the Poms is almost as enjoyable as beating the Kiwis.

wv- shance. As in, "Shance would be a fine thing"
Hey why wasn't the USA invited to compete?
xxx
Oh...it's 'The British Empire games'.
Yes, there was that whole 1776 "issue" to contend with.
GO AUSTRALIA!
*ahem*
As you were...
Far be it for me to appear a sour loser but it is an incontrovertible fact that no-one in the UK gives a ferret's fart about the Commonwealth Games. Even the 'Queen' just sent her jug eared son this time...
Now the Ashes... That's a different matter ;)
look at it like this aus ahs 6 times pop of NZ but didnt get 6 times more medals, or like this, no world records so really an irrelevant sporting contest, if the rest of world was invited and going off best performances from all atheletes aus would have got 12 medals and only 4-5 golds.
Annon: Either way - we beat the pants of England, that's all that matters.
With a fraction of their population too I might add.
Hey Unique...have you ever seen the programme 'Genius' on cable ??
Good thing we're not counting MAJOR scientific achievements or TRULY WORLD CLASS inventions...or the score might be a bit embarrassing for Ostraya...
Surly we can hold our heads high in knowledge that we brought the world the Stump-jump plough.
Wow, I had no idea such a strong rivalry existed. Here in America we're mostly busy sitting in the dark at home watching "Jackass" on TV. Our younger generation thinks shooting one another in the jimmy with a paintball gun or pretending to wrestle by jumping off the ropes and beating one another with a folding chair is sport.
