Brandenburg

Went to see the Brandenburg last night. The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra play 16th and 17th century Baroque and Classical music on period instruments. Gut strings, harpsichord, theorbo, sackbutt - the works, All period instruments or the best available replicas.

As always it was outstanding.
The Italian soloist Federico Guglielmo was simply stunning

Pachelbel Canon and Gigue in D Major
Telemann Concerto for Violin in G Major, TWV 51:G8
J.S. Bach Orchestral Suite in D Major, BWV 1068
Vivaldi Concerto for 2 Violins in A Major, Op. 3 No. 5
Handel Concerto Grosso in F Major, Op 3 No 4
Handel Passacaglia from Concerto V, HWV 310

All great but the cracker of the evening was Guglielmo virtuoso solo performance

Vivaldi Violin Concerto in D Major, RV 222

I've never seen a performance like it. His fingers were a blur.. It was simply stunning.
I've found a nice version of the third moment here but Guglielmo made it, I don't know - come to life. It sparkled.

Quite the culture vulture!

I feel horrendously uncouth. Which, beneath my bougoise pretentions, I am.

aahhh, crap. More self-realization.

Not big on Orchestra performances myself, but as my SO is a former opera singer she is working on me ;)

Hi baby. You know I'm hard into this. i love it.

Do you go to operas as well? I find it hard finding someone to go to operas with me...let alone a John Philip Sousa concert. hehehe

LP > That's me - a bald headed carrion eating raptor siting amongst the arthritis ridden 'Golden Oldies'. I stand out particularly as they shuffle about in their walkers assisted to their seats by their only slightly less bent significant others. I am a vulture in their world, my jeans in particular distinguish me, a destitute, contrasted to the tailored slacks and woolen suits of the establishment. The trappings of extreme wealth are perhaps not flaunted in the atrium other than on the ice cube sized rings grasping the campaign flutes but the jags, mercs, and black range rovers in car park bellow ground tell the complete story.
At least, I smile to myself, as I politely chatter with some harridan, my relative youth discharging me from the obligation of ensuring my hearing aide is properly charged for the event.

Fusion > Only been to a few. I love the big arias but there is a lot of guff and padding in between

SZJ > Lean closer babe - I'll tell you what I'm hard into.

I haven't been to something like that in a long time. I hadn't even though about it for years until now.
